They say that behind every great athlete is the guiding hand of a skilled, dedicated professional ...
for Commander, it is Elly Schobel.  Elly Schobel www.thehomestedt.com

No short cuts have been taken with this stunning young pinto Contango stallion son. His progress in training is carefully monitored, and always appropriate for his level of physical and mental development... with the long term goal of competing at GP, though true to his pedigree, Commander seems to want to jump. We are all very impressed by this talented athletic young stallion and look forward to a promising future. Serious inquiries invited.

Commander  was the high scoring colt for movement at his 2004 Oldenburg Registry North America Inspection.  Commander is not related to Samber (or Samber's  dam Tina).  Click here for Commander's  pedigree

Commander is sired by Contango (by Contender). Contango, Keur, Preferent was Champion of his 100-Day Test in Medingen, Germany, in 1991. He earned 9s on temperament and trainability and won top honors in both jumping and dressage. He was ridden by Els Jansen at heavy tour level prior to his departure to the USA. With his owner and rider Mary Alice Malone, Contango made his debut at Grand Prix level dressage. In 1997 he achieved seven 1st Place wins at Grand Prix. His offspring Madorijke, Maverick, Maestro and New Tango have reached the same level in sport and are successful internationally. Contango's offspring Broere Maroon, Newton and Nouvelle are competing at the highest levels in the jumping ring. His breeding values for both dressage (168) and jumping (123) are far above average. Through his approved son Citango and grandson Tango the breeders can profit from Contango’s qualities that have earned him the preferent predicate as a sire. The incredible Sandro Hit daughter Poetin (who sold for 2.5 million Euros) was bred to Contango.

Commander's dam Fancy Ruler - is a 1982 Main Mare Book Oldenburg mare (Bold Ruler line 7/8ths TB).  Fancy Ruler was presented to the German Oldenburg Verband / Oldenburg Registry North America in 1995 at an Inspection at which Dr. Roland Ramsauer officiated.  Dr. Ramsauer was the German Breeding Director for the German Oldenburg Verband (in Germany) and the Breeding Director for the Oldenburg Registry North America in the United States.  In 1995 there was only one Oldenburg Registry in North America (which was called Oldenburg Registry North America) and it was the only legal licensee of the German Oldenburg Verband operating in the US.   Dr. Ramsauer felt that Fancy ruler was of exceptional quality with respect to her conformation, movement and pedigree and well worthy of acceptance into the Oldenburg Main Mare Book.

What Dr. Ramsauer did in 1995 is much the same as years ago, when some Dutch inspector approved Samber’s dam - Tina.  Essentially, in 1995 Dr. Rolland Ramsauer had the authority and subsequently approved Fancy Ruler as a Main Mare Book Oldenburg Mare for both the German Oldenburg Verband and the Oldenburg Registry North America,  adding a new source of approved pinto color for Oldenburg breeding.   (For more about Fancy Ruler see her page.)

The combination of Contango and Fancy Ruler produced the exceptional quality colt - Commander - who is athletic,  with great suspension and extension in the trot.  Much like his versatile sire Contango, who won both the jumping and dressage portion of his 100 days test, we expect Commander to perform well at both dressage and show jumping.

Commander's Training Journal: 11/15/05 ~ from Elly (a.k.a The Drill Sergeant)   "Well, we introduced Commander to the jump chute today - he took to it like a fish to a large body of water - actually, after walking with him over the trot rails we turned him loose and he proceeded to trot towards the fence of the dressage ring and POP over the surrounding fence which is 4' 2" !!!  Suffice to say, he has obviously inherited Contango's jumping gene!
